Kate NganWa Ao

object with video, 2018

metal steel, sands, gypsum and plastic, 70 x 70 x 200 cm

This project is dedicated to Kate’s hometown - Macau. She used to hear a lot about land reclamation on TV as a child, and the noise of pile drivers on construction sites every day. She used to think that her homeland was going to sink eventually one day. Macau has continually reclaimed land from the sea, turning the small collection of a peninsula and two islands into a bustling tourism metropolis. “We keep making new lands, but we are also losing a peaceful home - Macau.”
